If your main products are acrylic awards, wood signs, or leather tags, a CO2 laser is a strong choice. If you need serial numbers on stainless steel parts, fiber is usually the better route. Both are useful, but they solve different jobs.
What Is a G2 Fiber Laser?
Fiber lasers get their name from the optical fiber that acts as the laser medium. The most common wavelength for marking and engraving machines is about 1064 nanometers. Metals absorb that wavelength well, so fiber lasers produce clean marks on stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and coated metals.
The label G2 is not a strict technical standard. G2 usually means second generation, or it may be a product series name. When you see a listing for a G2 fiber laser, the important numbers are actual output power, spot size, pulse width, and warranty. If the seller only says G2 fiber laser without giving a clear spec sheet, treat that as a red flag. Two fiber lasers can both be called G2 and still perform completely differently.

A smaller setup that is reliable and well understood makes more money than a large machine with no operator experience.
